The United Nation is working with the African Union to help stop this problem. To create peace in the country would be an amazing step on the success of the approaching African Union-United Nations Peacekeeping operation. These two groups have made a list of troop contributing countries and showed the Government of Sudan the list. A deployment plan will hopefully be finished soon because it is a very critical step in the process. The United Nation is trying to help the refugees in Sudan but the Sudanese government does not want anyone or anything from the United Nations in their country. However the UN is providing over 13,000 refugees with emergency aid. Most of the 13,000 is women and children who have been trying to escape air bombing and raiding. The most vulnerable refugees are being transported to safer inland camps soon. Some refugees have been asking the UNHCR(United Nations Refugee Agency) The United Nations has estimated that 70,000 people have died in Sudan, but the government officials have said that the number must be higher than that because they only started the death toll in 2004. The United States wanted the UN in Darfur before 2007. The US thought that it would help the UN in taking over the peacekeeping operations. The US says that the UN should strengthen the communication, transportation, and command in the African Union Force. The African Union is willing to hand over the peacekeeping operation to the UN.
